What if you could completely transform someone’s life with a single, powerful gesture? That’s exactly what we set out to do—building and giving away 100 homes to families in desperate need of safe and stable housing. From Jamaica to El Salvador, Argentina to Mexico, and even Colombia, these homes are more than just houses—they’re a fresh start, a renewed hope, and a safe place to thrive.
Let’s take a closer look at how these incredible transformations unfolded, one home at a time.
Helping Families in Jamaica
Our journey began in Jamaica, where over 500,000 people live in unsafe and life-threatening conditions. Many families here don’t just live without comfort—they live without safety, facing homes on the verge of collapse.
Take one family, for example, who lived in a structure so unstable it could fall apart at any moment. The father had carried construction materials up a mountain just to build the shelter they were living in. To make their transition smooth, we sent them on a mini vacation while we worked with local partners to build a brand new home.
When they returned, their disbelief was palpable as they stood before a brand-new house, complete with furniture, running water, electricity, and even a crib for their newborn. They didn’t just receive a house. They received peace of mind.
Facing the Danger of Flooding
One community in Jamaica was constantly ravaged by massive flash floods during rainy seasons. Homes here weren’t just uncomfortable—they were frequently obliterated by rising waters. While walking through the area, we even spotted a fridge stuck in a river, swept away from someone’s home.
So, what did we do? We built rows of homes on higher ground, far from the reach of floods, ensuring the safety and survival of these families during future storms. We handed over the keys to Maria and her daughter, whose previous home had been destroyed. Watching their joyful reaction was a sharp reminder of why this project matters.
But we didn’t stop there. We continued handing out homes in this flood-prone area, turning despair into hope for house after house.
A Neighborhood in Need of More Than Homes
In addition to providing homes, we realized this community needed something to bring people—especially kids—together. That’s why we built a giant soccer field and equipped it with brand-new soccer gear for all the kids. Their faces lit up as they sprinted to play on the new field for the very first time.
And because no celebration is complete without snacks, we handed out loads of Feastables chocolate bars, keeping spirits high while the kids enjoyed their new field. It may have been a small addition to an already big day, but for these children, it was everything.
Expanding the Vision in El Salvador and Beyond
With lives changed in Jamaica, we didn’t stop there. Over in El Salvador, many families were also living in unsafe housing. We began building homes as fast as we could, ensuring people had places to sleep, raise their children, and live without fear.
Next, we traveled to Argentina, where we focused on providing children with safe places to live, learn, and grow. And from there, we moved on to Mexico, transforming community after community.
Everywhere we went, we saw the same thing: people in dire need of a safe roof over their heads. And we were determined to solve as much of that as possible.
Responding to Disaster in Colombia
In Colombia, we met families whose homes had been destroyed by severe windstorms and even tornadoes. One family, John and Anna, had lost everything to a tornado. Their house was in no condition to live in. So, naturally, we built them a brand-new one.
Their stunned reactions when we handed over the keys said it all. Tears flowed, and smiles couldn’t be contained. It’s heartwarming to know that they no longer have to worry about where they’ll sleep at night or how to stay safe.
We didn’t stop with just one family, though. We continued rebuilding homes for others in the same community, creating a ripple effect of hope for everyone around.
A Few Hiccups Along the Way
Not everything went perfectly. While setting up one home, we accidentally broke the lock to the door, and the family showed up before we could figure out a fix. Luckily, everything worked out in the end, and the family was thrilled with their new home, fully furnished and ready for their arrival.
We even surprised them with a brand-new motorcycle, giving them reliable transportation to make their lives a little easier.
These moments of improvisation reminded us that, while things won’t always go to plan, the ultimate goal of changing lives makes it all worth it.
The Final House and a Special Surprise
With 99 houses handed over, we had one more left to go. We gathered the final family, removed their blindfolds, and revealed their new home. Their excitement marked the end of this extraordinary journey.
But there was one last cherry on top. We noticed many children lacked reliable transportation for school or errands. So, we brought in a truck filled with bicycles, ensuring every child in one community could ride around safely and have a little fun while they were at it.
The Power of Giving
This project wasn’t just about building houses. It was about restoring dignity, creating safety, and giving families a new chapter in life. None of this would’ve been possible without the hardworking teams at organizations like Techo [https://techo.org/], Food For The Poor [https://foodforthepoor.org/housing-jamaica/], and New Story [https://www.newstoryhomes.org/], who helped bring this vision to life.
But most importantly, this wouldn’t have happened without the support of viewers like you who tune in, watch, and share these stories. With your continued support, who knows how many homes or lives we’ll be able to transform next?
Here’s to building a better, safer world—one home at a time.
